Acetone Formula
The chemical formula of acetone is C₃H₆O. It is most often written as (CH₃)₂CO, which shows its structure: a central carbonyl group (C=O) with a methyl group (CH₃) on each side. Acetone is the simplest ketone.
Indicators of Acids and Bases
An indicator is a substance that changes colour to show whether a solution is acidic or basic. Common ones are litmus (red in acid, blue in base), phenolphthalein (colourless in acid, pink in base) and methyl orange (red in acid, yellow in base).
